The atmosphere in the room was vibrant, brimming with curiosity and enthusiasm. The Fashion Students of The Polytechnic University of Hong Kong were eager to absorb insights from my experiences of working in the Fashion Industry during a guest lecture on Monday, March 23rd.
During this session, I shared my journey and provided valuable perspectives of my role as a Personal Stylist, along with the unusual path I took to reach it. All encapsulated in a presentation titled “The Power of Choice and Connections.”
I recognised that these insights would act as important stepping stones for students, as they strive to become influential figures in the fashion industry. It felt surreal to come full circle, having once been in their same position as a fashion student (at the University of Technology Sydney), and now being invited to share my expertise to a room full of aspiring Fashion-istass!

Here are My Key Takeaways:
The Power of Style: Style transcends mere clothing; it serves as a form of self-expression and a means of connecting with the world. Recognizing this can empower individuals to reveal their authentic selves.
The Role of a Stylist: Contrary to common belief, a stylist’s role goes beyond offering shopping advice. It involves bridging the gap between a person’s inner self and their outward appearance, assisting them in navigating personal transitions and rediscovering their identity.
Challenges as Opportunities: The fashion industry can be demanding, but every challenge presents an opportunity for growth. Whether it’s managing client expectations or establishing a business, resilience and adaptability are essential.
Empowerment Through Knowledge: Success isn’t solely dependent on having a degree. It’s about the knowledge you gain, how you utilise it, and the relationships you cultivate with others.
However, my favourite part was sharing valuable life advice with the students embarking on their careers in the fashion industry.
I covered everything from:
How investing in your self is always the best choice!
No experience is a failure; it’s simply accumulated knowledge.
Confidence is built through perseverance and experience, so always try!
The significance of showing up with authenticity (and the impact of clothing in this to communicate).
And my favourite takeaway: "the connections you foster and the choices you make truly matter!"
I was also particularly touched by the enthusiasm during the Q&A session. The students posed thought-provoking questions, demonstrating a keen interest in understanding not just the glitz and glamour of the industry, but also its deeper implications on personal identity and cultural expression. It was a reminder of why I embarked on this journey—to inspire and empower the next generation to view fashion as a transformative tool and have a sense of responsibility!
As we wrapped up the talk, I was filled with gratitude for the opportunity to be part of their journey. The connections made and the stories shared were invaluable, reinforcing my belief in the power of community.
I left Poly-U with a renewed sense of purpose, excited to witness how these students will redefine fashion, infusing it with fresh perspectives and innovative ideas.
In closing, I encourage each of you to continue exploring your unique style and to never underestimate the impact you can have on the world through your creativity and passion.
Let’s keep pushing boundaries and creating spaces where everyone can express their true selves through fashion.
